OK, we held our virtual event. Now what?
Once we’ve played the role of writer, editor, producer and promoter….to get our virtual spring event accomplished, what comes next?
For my client, this year’s virtual event required five separate shoots in order to tell the story we wanted to convey. This compares to one or two photoshoots for our past in-person events. With all the expenses, time, and effort invested we looked for ways to leverage our work after the virtual event was held. Here are some things we did:
  • Put the event/program content on our website. The portions that were not program related were edited out (for example live auction and introductory remarks), but other parts were still relevant for existing and prospective donors as well as families who may are interested in the services of this nonprofit in the future.
  • A post-event eblast was sent with a link to the video for anyone who couldn’t tune in for the virtual event.
  • In the thank you letters, we included the online location to view the program.  We were sure we got donations from some people who couldn’t tune in, so this was a good reminder for them to see how their support helps.
  • We encouraged non-event donors to see the content. My client featured a tour of a group home and an interview with some residents. As an added gesture of gratitude, we sent the link to the foundation that funded the recent kitchen remodel for that home.
  • Also we have various camps of donors: event donors, holiday donors, funders and “other.” We looked across all these programs and sent personal emails to all major donors who gave in other ways. We sent personal emails to these major contributors encouraging them to have a closer look at the individuals that their past gifts are helping.
Event clean up looks different now. We don’t have boxes of raffle tickets to manager or centerpieces to unpack, but these efforts help leverage the program, and make your hard work even more impactful.
